Bio:

Dave's interest in music dates back to as early as the singer can remember. He didn't realize that he wanted to play music until he got his firstAC/DC album at age 10. Dave relates that "Dirty Deeds swayed my fragilemind to come over to the dark side." He was hooked, and music becamea passion as opposed to an interest.

Dave began singing because he never had the patience to learn an instrument."I figured that anyone could make sounds with their mouth and thatsinging would be a shortcut. Unfortunately, I wasn't born with much naturaltalent, and it took a long time before people could stomach me."

Dave picked the guitar up at the age of 17. He had not yet found a band, and realized that he needed some kind of instrument to start writing songs."Vocals by themselves are boring as shit!" He learned a fewchords, but could never become motivated enough to become a good guitarplayer. Not until Laughing Colors formed did he pick up the guitar again, and then only because there was an old acoustic sitting in the basementof the house in which the band practiced. Dave began to play a few songswith it, and then found himself writing with it more and more. Dave admitsthat most of what he knows on the guitar came from playing with the bandor from Corey showing him how to do things. "If I remembered halfof the stuff [he's] taught me I could be a bad ass, but..."

Where the other members of Laughing Colors had at least a little experiencewith other bands, Dave had none. He messed around with a couple friendsdoing some garage/keg party type stuff in high school, but that experienceand exposure was surpassed in about three weeks with Laughing Colors. He considers Laughing Colors his first band.

Perhaps it would be better to let Dave's own words describe his musicaltraining. "All of the training I've had has been on the job trainingwith the band. I can't read one note of music and I'm probably lucky thatI can read Rolling Stone. The more knowledgeable members of my band arevery good at translating and we've learned our own way of communication.I guess that's why I'm not comfortable with calling myself a musician.I prefer entertainer because you can entertain and still be an idiot. If you put me in a room full of musicians I don't fit in, but put me ina room full of jerk-offs and I'll shine."

Dave is very excited about the band's musical direction at this time. The band is writing songs in a comfort zone, and has found it increasinglyeasy to write songs and to do so without verbalizing so much, having afeel for what comes next. Laughing Colors is a rock band, and a rock bandis what Laughing Colors will always be. Fortunately, that leaves a lotof gray area for them to explore. The singer states, "I've alwaysfelt that if we can keep a good combination of evolving, but still stickingto our guns, we will be happy with the end result. So far, so good."

Dave continues, "I am very satisfied with the progress and accomplishmentsof Laughing Colors, and I attribute these things to the fact that we havenot only stuck together, but maintain direction. Our music won't changethe world, our clothes won't make much of a statement, and our show won'tblind you with pyrotechnics, but we just might stick around long enoughfor you to buy one of our albums. We hope you enjoy it."
